Admissions Criteria

Children will be admitted at age 11 without reference to ability, aptitude, race, religion or background. The number of intended admissions for the year commencing 1st September 2009 will be 172. Students will also be admitted to begin Sixth Form Courses at age 16 without reference to ability providing that such courses are available in the school.

The admission number to Year 12 is 50. Should any parents wish further information about the Sixth Form they should contact the school for this.

The catchment area covers the parishes of Aston-sub-Edge, Batsford, Blockley, Bourton-on-the-Hill, Chipping Campden, Condicote, Ebrington, Evenlode, Longborough, Mickleton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Saintbury, Sezincote, Snowshill, Todenham, Weston-sub-Edge and Willersey.

The parishes of Adlestrop, Bledington, Broadwell and Oddington are covered by the catchment area of both Chipping Campden School and Cotswold School.

Where applications for admission exceed the Indicated Admission Number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set below, to decide which children to admit.

  1. Children in Public Care (Looked After Children)
  2. Children living in the priority catchment area normally served by the school whose sibling is at the school at the time the new child starts. Please refer to the Local Authority standard definition of a sibling as stated in the Transfer to Secondary School booklet and also for description of the catchment area.
  3. A sibling is defined as a brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister or the child of the parent/carer’s partner and, in every case, the child must be living in the same family unit at the same address.
  4. Children for whom only this particular school is appropriate due to an exceptional medical condition. Applications under this criterion will only be considered if they are supported by a medical statement from the doctor. This must demonstrate that there is a very specific connection between the medical need and this school.
  5. Children living in the priority catchment area normally served by the school, with the strongest geographical claim, measured in a direct line (see 6 below). Ease of access to the school or other schools will be taken into consideration. Please refer to the Transfer to Secondary School booklet for a description of the catchment area.
  6. Children who live outside the priority catchment area normally served by the school, who will have sibling at the school at the time the new child starts. Please refer to the Local Authority standard definition of a sibling as stated in the Transfer to Secondary School booklet
  7. In the event of over subscription in any of the above criteria then the strongest geographical claim measured in a straight line from the front door of the child’s home address to the right hand door of the school’s front entrance using the Local Authorities’ computerised measuring system, with those living closest to the school receiving the higher priority.
  8. Children who live outside the priority catchment area normally served by the school, with the strongest geographical claim, measured in a direct line. See 6 above.
  9. Over-subscription for those fulfilling the admissions criteria (i.e. sibling or living in catchment area): In the event of over-subscription places will be awarded to those with the strongest geographical claim (as described in point 6) – this will be used as a tie-break. Where two or more applications are received from children living the same distance away for one final place, the school will make the final selection by lottery.

General

The School will agree any changes to its admission arrangements with the Local Education Authority. It will establish arrangements for appeals against non-admission by an independent Appeal Panel. Details of admissions and appeals arrangements will be published each year.

The waiting list for admissions will remain in force until the start of the new school year. In September of each school year, the School will write to all parents of children on the waiting list to establish whether they wish for their child's name to remain on the waiting list. A new waiting list will be produced and 'normal' admissions arrangements will take note of the new waiting list.

Our natural catchment are extends over a wide area of the North Cotswolds, but we now take students from far outside this area. Children from Hereford and Worcester, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire attend the School, from places as far afield as Evesham, Kineton and Chipping Norton. All students from our area living outside the three mile limit are provided with free transport by Gloucestershire. Parents of students from outside our area are responsible for their own transport arrangements. Buses providing transport for students from within the catchment area do transport children from outside the area, but only if there are spare seats, and parents have to apply to Shire Hall and pay termly in advance for this service. In addition, private companies provide coaches from the Shipston area.

A new national admissions system operated for the first time in September 2005. If your child attends a state primary school, you will receive an information pack and admissions form - on this form, you must state three preferences for school. You can name local schools and schools in neighbouring authorities who will work together in awarding places. Chipping Campden School will operate an equal ranking system with the admissions criteria being applied equally regardless of the ranking stated.

Parents of children in private education can apply by letter to the school and their details will be forwarded to Shire Hall.
