Huts off to Business Brains!

Money-minded students from Chipping Campden School celebrated the launch of their brand new businesses this week. The teams began operating from the three new trading huts which opened in the school grounds on Monday.

Students and staff were spoilt for choice with the young traders offering a variety of goods for sale, from gel-pens and sticky notes to freshly ground coffee and custom made T- shirts.

Each business is given a six week period in which to rake in maximum profits, before a new group of students is given the opportunity to take over each Enterprise Hut with their own business ideas and products.

The current traders include Year 11 students Ben Akrill, Jonatahan Checksfield and Krister Nobes, who operate "The Good Stuff" organic hot drinks hut.

With paper clips aplenty, Thomas Purchase-Rathbone and Daniel Arthurs' "Stationery Express" hut is proving a popular place for students wishing to stock up on pens and pencils before lessons.

For those students who want to see their mug on a mug, keyring or t-shirt , the "You-nique" trading hut offers a range of personalised gifts for everyone. The three enterprising young women who came up with this idea are sisters Alice and Emily Preston-Jones and their friend Karina Clifford.

The Trading Huts open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and require the students to put in a lot of work in their free time, replenishing stock and running advertising campaigns to attract customers. The aim of the trading huts is to give Chipping Campden Students a taste of what it is like to run a real business.

The Head of Enterprise and Work Related Learning at the School, Mr, James Slattery, was extremely impressed with the high level of interest he received from students and was inundated with applications to run a trading hut.

"This has been an amazing project to work on and I’m delighted to see it up and running" said Mr Slattery. "Without any question, the interest and enthusiasm I have seen from potential applicants, traders, and the wider school community has been brilliant. I think we’ve got a lot of future entrepreneurs in the school and I can’t wait to see this project continue to develop".
