THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER?

The Gloucestershire Initial Teacher Education Partnership offers a variety of routes into secondary teacher training. These courses are available in the full range of National Curriculum subjects and vocational subjects are available for the PGCE and GTP route.

Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) - a one-year full time course which is an established school based route. Certain subjects attract bursaries and golden hellos.

Assessment Only route - where a Professional Development Portfolio is submitted and the participant is assessed whilst teaching in school.

Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) - this is an employment-based route where a school employs the participant for the training year.

Overseas Trained Teacher Programme (OTTP) - offers overseas trained teachers the opportunity to gain qualified teacher status (QTS) whilst working as a teacher.
